The predecessor of Alba Regia Dance association, Alba Regia Dance Ensemble was founded in 1949 by dancers committed to folklore.
Since 1994 the association operates as a non-profit civil organization called “Alba Regia Dance Association”.
The association currently has over 500 members. From kindergarten to senior age, there are altogether 15 different grades, thus continuously supplying the new generation of dancers. The senior group of Alba Regia, founded from retired dancers, is also very active.
The repertoire of Alba Regia includes dances, music and traditions from almost all regions of Hungary. The ensemble has participated in several festivals both within Hungary and abroad. Alba Regia has toured and participated in festivals on most of the continents. The ensemble has been chosen several times to represent Hungary, Székesfehérvár or the region in conferences and international fairs worldwide.
The association is active in folklore education for all ages. The main goals of Alba Regia include the preservation of folk dances and music, the exploration of the Hungarian cultural heritage and the establishment of new values. The association also offers accredited courses for dance teachers.
Alba Regia Dance Ensemble has been awarded numerous prizes locally and internationally in various categories. The ensemble regularly participates in local festivals, competitions and educational seminars to maintain its high artistic level.
Alba Regia has been awarded the “Outstanding Ensemble” prize several times, which is the highest achievement and prize in the Hungarian qualification system. In 1994 the group has won the "Europe Award for Folk Art" by the FVS-Foundation of Hamburg, which is considered to be one of the most prestigious awards in folk art.
